Economic Integration of Refugees in Greece: practices and potentials in education and employability
This is the 2nd International Conference, hosted by the Communication and Media Psychology Lab of the Department of Communication and Media Studies of the NKUA, within the context of the European project UNINTEGRA ("University leading full and step-wise approach to the integration of refugees"), which is co-funded by the EC under the Asylum and Migration Fund (AMIF).
The conference will be held at Athens' cultural center (50, Akadimias str.) on April 19, 2019.
The aim of this meeting of experts and organisations operating in Greece, Spain and Israel is to share good practices and potentials regarding Education (morning panel) and Employability - Work Orientation (afternoon panel) to support the Economic Integration of Refugees in Greece within the current and emerging socio-economic context.
About the UNINTEGRA project
With the University of Santiago de Compostela as coordinator, the UNINTEGRA project brings together the NKUA (EL), the Catalan ACSAR Foundation (ES), the University of Minho (PT), the University of Vic (ES) and the Council of Santiago de Compostela (ES) aiming to develop parallel research, academic and educational activities in multiple levels; development of a Protocol for the validation of academic competences of refugees in Greece, Spain and Portugal; qualitative and quantitative research on the emerging social integration needs of vulnerable groups (e.g. children, women, LGBT) within the refugees’ population; development and provision of training activities (10 workshops in Athens, a modular course in Athens, Santiago de Compostela and Minho) for refugees and professionals that operate in the field; dynamic involvement of international volunteers (stages); awareness raising and dissemination activities (2 international conferences organized by the NKUA and ACSAR in Athens); reflection and sharing of experiences among all the involved agents (e.g. municipalities, NGOs, researchers, volunteers and academics). The duration of the project is 2 years and is due to be completed in November 2019.
Presentation of App4Refs, innovative mobile phone app to bring services for refugees
The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) and the ACSAR Foundation from Catalonia, within the framework of the European project UNINTEGRA (University leading full and stepwise approach to the integration of refugees), co-funded by the European Union under the Asylum Fund and Immigration (AMIF) are organizing an event for the launching presentation to the public of the App4Refs mobile application, which aims to facilitate the social integration and integration of refugees and asylum seekers in the European urban environment.
The application has been designed with the participation of the refugees themselves to facilitate their access to key information and services upon their arrival in Greece.
Its public presentation will be held on Tuesday 20 at 11 am, in the conference room of the Representation of the European Commission in Greece (2 Leoforos Vasilissis Sofias, 106 74 Athens) launching
The number of participants is limited and identification is required at the entrance for the attendees.

Social and professional integration training course
The Laboratory of Psychological Applications and Communication Planning of the Department of Communication and Media Studies of the NKUA, organizes, within the framework of the European Program UNINTEGRA "University leading integrated and stepwise approach to integration of refugees" (AMIF, code 14505) integration training course of 1 month (from 26 November 2018 to 21 December 2018) addressed to 10 young refugees (18-35 years old) who wish to start or continue their studies in Greece.
The course provides a total of 80 hours of teaching divided into 3 subjects: a) 40 hours familiarity with the Greek language; b) 20 hours psychosocial integration; and c) 20 hours preparation for seeking professional and educational opportunities.
It is FREE and it will be given to each participant a Certificate of Attendance from the Laboratory, as well as a monthly transportation card for their transfer to Athens.
The courses will be delivered Monday to Friday morning (10am - 3pm) at the Department of Communication and Media of the University of Athens in Sophocleous 1 (room 301) in cooperation with the Greek Language Teaching Center of the NKUA.
The program is invited to attend this course by 10 people, selected according to the following criteria:

1. They must be young refugees, preferably women
2. They must wish to study or continue their studies or work in Greece
3. They must know English (in order to be able to attend the lesson)

International Conference “Promoting Social Inclusion and Local Integration of Refugees: Best Practices and Innovative Resources"
The Laboratory of Psychological Applications and Planning of the Department of Communication and Media Studies of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in collaboration with the ACSAR Foundation from Catalonia, organized in the context of the EU project UNINTEGRA (AMIF) an International Conference titled “Promoting social inclusion and local integration of refugees: best practices and innovative tools”.
During the two days of the Conference, which took place the 14th and the 15th of June at the Aggelopoulou Auditorium (Aristidou 11, Athens), representatives from Greek, Catalan and other European institutions, including the Vicemayor of the Municipality of Athens, Mr Papayanakis, the representative of the Catalan Government Ms Oriol Amoros, UNHCR, and numerous international and Greek NGOs operating in the field with refugees in Greece, delivered presentations and shared institutional practices and policy initiatives on subjects such as the psychosocial recovery and mental health support of refugees, attention to vulnerable groups such as unaccompanied minors, disability, gender and LGBTQI issues, the training of cultural mediators and humanitarian workers, local initiatives for the refugee’s social inclusion, and ICT solutions to support urban integration. Part of the event was the EU launching of the mobile app for refugees App4Refs. The Conference was opened by the Deputy Head of the Representation of the European Commission in Greece, Mr George Moschovis and the Professor of the Department of Communication and Media Studies Nicolas Christakis. It has been attended by more than 150 participants.
